Startups Awards judges ‘DIG’ innovative new start-up

Friday 03 December 2010 – DIG IT Projects wins the Gooroo Innovative Business of the Year award at yesterday’s Startups Awards.

DIG IT Projects, from Saltburn-by-the-Sea, Cleveland, designs and installs allotment style gardens into Schools and community groups to allow them to grow their own fresh fruit and vegetables. It also delivers ´Growing Workshops´ to the children and parents to access through after school clubs.

In addition, the company offers lesson plans that the teachers can use in the classroom to enhance what they are doing outdoors in the garden, linking it all to current curriculum targets and standards.

The Startups Awards, organised by Startups.co.uk took place today at Kensington Roof Gardens in London. DIG IT Projects beat hundreds of businesses across the UK to the prestigious title of Gooroo Innovative Business of the Year.

Richard Smith, founder DIG IT Projects says:  “It feels unbelievable. We´ve had a good year, but to actually get recognised at a ceremony like this, winning an award, is great, and gives the business a lot of credibility. Now we can promote this award, which makes people look at you in a different light. It´s fantastic not just for me, but for the staff, it recognises the good work we´ve done and gives us a big pat on the back. We´ve had a good year, we´re growing, it´s all been good, now we´re looking to next year.”

Gooroo, specialists in business software, sponsored the Innovative Business of the Year.

Speaking at the event, Dean Miles, Head of Business Development at Gooroo.co.uk, said: “Gooroo’s online business management software is already making it easier for hundreds of new-start businesses to manage their day-to-day business activities and their overall business performance. As principal sponsor of the Startups Awards, we wanted to help spotlight Britain’s most promising start-up enterprises. DIG IT Projects have shown that innovative ideas and flair will always win through. We think they have what it takes to become a potential household name of the future.”

The winners of each category were selected by a judging panel consisting of some of the UK’s most successful entrepreneurs, including Toni Mascolo, founder of Toni & Guy and Julie Meyer, founder of Adrienne Capital.
