Completed in August 2008.
Completion time approximately 4 weeks.
Site Area 40m (133ft) x 20m (65ft).
36 Raised Beds 8ft L x 4ft W x 2ft H
A collection of Raised Beds to be used for growing vegetables etc, 36 in total, half of which have extended posts enabling climbing vegetables such as peas/beans to be grown. (photo)
The site also accommodates-:
A composting area of 4 separate units
1 x Pergola frame seating area
1 x Tree seat
1 x Herb bed
1 x Poly tunnel
Bark chip flooring with weed control membrane.
The herb bed design being the “Compass Centre” logo which is part of the college (photo)
The poly tunnel was an unused bike store which was modified, inside there is a work surface stretching all the way round and is divided up equally to represent each of the 36 beds (photo)
In brief the site area was designated for this “Garden Space Project”, to allow the outside community to access and rent the beds off the College enabling the project to be sustainable for any future repair work or additions to the site. The idea being that the pupils will organize and successfully run the site as an ongoing concern.
This project was funded through “Breathing Spaces” of the National Lottery, and “LEGI”, which is a Redcar & Cleveland Council Organization, helping Business Start up etc
